In 2026, AI stops responding to prompts and starts running the work. Across four coordinated releases, Microsoft is turning agents into operators that execute work end to end, securely and across Microsoft 365. Together, these releases define the partner playbook for driving real AI outcomes: faster execution, measurable impact, and repeatable deployments customers can scale with confidence.
The four releases work toward a single outcome: always on agents that act across documents, inboxes, and calendars—grounded in trusted governance and delivered on one connected surface. That outcome gives partners a unified way to sell, deploy, and scale agentic solutions across the Microsoft Cloud.
1. 2026 Work Trend Index: your conversation opener for AI transformation
The 2026 Work Trend Index (WTI) marks a decisive shift. Customers are moving from AI pilots to business wide transformation, with agents taking on execution so employees can focus on higher value outcomes.
For partners, WTI is the strategic door opener that:
- Reengages customers who are stuck in experimentation
- Anchors AI conversations to measurable business impact
- Positions readiness, adoption, and change management as essential - not optional - to realizing AI value
Partner takeaway: Use WTI to move customers from "curious about AI" to "ready to operationalize it," and position services that turn intent into outcomes.
2. Legal Agent in Word: a high value, purpose built entry point
Legal Agent in Word brings agentic AI directly into legal workflows, where precision, trust, and speed matter most.
Legal teams can now:
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts faster inside Microsoft Word
- Get source-linked analysis and negotiation-ready redlines with tracked changes
- Apply consistent reviews using internal playbooks, all within the Microsoft 365 trust boundary
Legal Agent is available today in Word for Windows for Microsoft 365 Copilot customers in the US via the Frontier program.
Partner takeaway: Target legal teams managing high contract volumes and position Legal Agent as a purpose built, defensible AI solution—ideal for driving Copilot expansion and services attach.

3. Cowork, Critique, and Council: turning Copilot into a system of action
Now live in the Frontier program, three new capabilities expand Microsoft 365 Copilot from assistance to execution - and unlock immediate value across your installed base.
- Copilot Cowork turns multistep requests into background plans with clear checkpoints - running inside Microsoft 365 security, governance, and DPA boundaries. This is the shift from “AI assistant” to “AI doer.”
- Critique (in Researcher) uses multiple leading models to cross check drafting, accuracy, and citations - outperforming competing approaches on the DRACO benchmark.
- Council (in Researcher) runs a single prompt across multiple models in parallel and surfaces where they agree, disagree, and add unique value - ideal for high stakes research and decisions.
Partner takeaway: Drive license activation in existing Microsoft 365 Copilot accounts, lead Frontier enrollment for new ones, and pair Critique and Council with governance and value measurement to win competitive deals.

4. Agentic Outlook: The fastest path to daily adoption
Outlook is the highest frequency surface in Microsoft 365, and now it’s agentic. As of April 27, Copilot in Outlook actively runs inbox and calendar work. This product:
- Triages email, drafts follow ups, and surfaces what needs action
- Resolves scheduling conflicts, rebooks rooms, and protects focus time
- Prepares users for what matters most, before they ask
Every action is visible and adjustable, keeping users in control.
Availability: All experiences are available via the Frontier program on Outlook for Windows and web (inbox management spans all Outlook endpoints).
Partner takeaway: Use Outlook as the on-ramp to agentic adoption. Pair Frontier program enrollment with change management and prompt enablement so customers feel value in week one.
The partner path forward
- Start with WTI to frame the opportunity.
- Then guide customers through Frontier capabilities - Legal Agent in Word; Cowork, Critique, Council; and agentic Outlook - as a clear path from intent to deployed, measurable outcomes.
- Prioritize Microsoft 365 Copilot customers who are enrolled in the Frontier program for fast activation and use this announcement to inform enrollment opener conversations for everyone else.
- This is the year agents stop assisting and start operating. Partners who move first will define the market.
